To Lam to Pay State Visit to Democratic Republic of Korea

Hanoi, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), To Lam, will pay a state visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from October 9 to 11 to attend the commemorative ceremony for the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea, media reported.

To Lam’s trip, according to the VNA news agency, is in response to an invitation from Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of that East Asian country.

Vietnam and the DPRK established diplomatic relations on January 31, 1950, and since then, both countries have signed important agreements in sectors such as culture, economy, trade, maritime navigation, visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports, and legal assistance, among others.

In March 2019, Kim Jong Un paid an official friendly visit to Vietnam, which was officially hailed as an important milestone in the history of relations between the two Parties and states.

Meanwhile, the fifth vice-foreign minister-level policy exchange was held in Pyongyang at the end of October 2024, during which Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu and his DPRK counterpart, Pak Sang Gil, expressed their satisfaction with the recent development of bilateral relations.

Minh Vu then reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent position of valuing and hoping to foster stronger and more practical cooperative ties with the DPRK in all fields, in line with the aspirations of the peoples of both countries and to contribute to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Regarding political relations, the two sides agreed to continue promoting exchanges of delegations, continuously strengthen political trust, and expand bilateral cooperation.
