According to an official statement released here, Ramokgopa will reaffirm South Africa’s efforts at the meeting to promote collective actions to accelerate the achievement of national and global development goals.
South Africa’s participation also seeks to continue the work carried out during its current pro tempore presidency of the G20.
Under the minister’s leadership, the G20 development meeting held last July in South Africa’s Kruger National Park adopted by consensus the Skukuza Ministerial Declaration. This document established key positions on universal social protection and the fight against illicit financial flows.
At that meeting, Ramokgopa presented a declaration on the financing of Global Public Goods, which included principles for international cooperation and a proposal to create an Ubuntu Commission to monitor these initiatives.
The G7 meeting is taking place within the framework of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
In addition to her participation in the ministerial forum, the South African representative will hold bilateral and strategic meetings.
