Land prices rise in Uruguay

Montevideo, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) Land prices in sales transactions reached their highest value in Uruguay since 2000, according to a report released by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP).

The average price per hectare was quoted at US$4,070 in the first quarter of the year, the report from the Directorate of Agricultural Statistics stated.

This figure represents a 4,1% increase compared to the previous six months.

During the period, 676 land sales transactions for agricultural use were carried out, a figure nine percent lower than that of the same period in 2024, according to the source.

The total area transacted was 111,205 hectares, representing a year-on-year decrease of 39%, while the total value of the transactions amounted to US$452.6 million.

The volume of land traded remained below the record years of the agro-export boom, when it exceeded 200,000 hectares per semester, according to the website Ámbito.

The coastal and southern departments of the country maintained the highest prices per hectare.

The MGAP report details that 71% of the sales involved areas between 10 and 100 hectares, although these transactions represented only 16% of the total area traded.

By productive use, 36% of the traded area was designated for crop-livestock farming, 25% for livestock, and 25% for forestry.
