This is reflected in press reports, which refer to the Joint Declaration issued in Johannesburg during the visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to South Africa to participate in the G20 Summit and carry out a series of bilateral activities.
The announcement regarding the elevation of ties to a Strategic Partnership was made by Minh Chinh and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who also advocated for the rapid development of an Action Plan to implement the established framework and put the content of the declaration into practice.
The Strategic Partnership aims to transform the Vietnam-South Africa relationship into a model of cooperation among countries of the Global South, according to the Vietnamese government’s online newspaper, which emphasized the shared commitment to further promoting economic, trade, and investment collaboration, considered the focus of bilateral cooperation.
To that end, efforts will be made to quickly negotiate an agreement and immediately establish a working group to facilitate market access for goods and products from both sides, striving to increase bilateral trade volume to between four and five billion dollars within the next two to three years.
