According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, this ministry, the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas, and Parks Canada renewed a memorandum of understanding to continue advancing shared priorities.
These include climate change adaptation, nature-based solutions, coastal and marine area management, environmental awareness, and the participation of indigenous peoples in the management of protected natural areas.
“The renewal of this memorandum of understanding (…) reaffirms both countries’ conviction that international cooperation is essential to address the global environmental crisis,” stated the Secretary of Environment of this Latin American nation, Alicia Barcena.
According to her Canadian counterpart, Julie Aviva Dabrusin, both parties “assume a profound responsibility to protect the natural heritage that sustains communities and our planet” and ensure “a sustainable future for generations to come.”
