The Mission’s Deputy Head, Maiker Comendador, remembered the moment the CDRs were founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, with the aim of defending the newly born revolutionary process.
Speaking in the courtyard of the Ambassador’s Residence in Hanoi, Comendador noted that Cuba is currently facing challenges as difficult as those at the start of the Revolution, as the issue at stake is not merely the maintenance of a political system, but the very survival of the homeland.
During the ceremony, they sang birthday greetings to the organization that was born on that night of September 28, 1960, to protect the revolutionary project within the neighborhoods.
Over the years, while retaining their role of responding to threats against the Revolution, the Committees—as they are known in Cuba—began coordinating community tasks, blood drives, vaccination campaigns, and social support efforts.
