Presidents of South Africa and South Sudan hold talks in Pretoria

Pretoria, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) South African President Cyril Ramaphosa held talks with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit regarding preparations for the upcoming South Sudanese elections scheduled for December 22, it was reported.

The meeting, held in Tshwane—a metropolitan municipality in Gauteng province—addressed the implementation of the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement, political dialogue, and election preparations, according to the South African presidency.

Salva Kiir was in Pretoria on a working visit ahead of his country’s electoral process.

Ramaphosa received Kiir in his capacity as chair of the African Union High-Level Special Committee on South Sudan, which is leading regional discussions on whether the country is ready for the upcoming vote.

The South African leader also urged that remaining political, security, and logistical challenges be addressed to ensure the elections are peaceful, credible, and inclusive.
