Rezaei responded to reports suggesting that new Iranian Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, might revoke the fatwa issued by his predecessor, Ali Khamenei, prohibiting the development and use of nuclear weapons.
The high-ranking official reiterated that no new decisions have been made on this matter and also touched upon the outlook for relations with the United States.
He said he had received a letter from US Vice President J.D. Vance, though he had not yet responded.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials, that Vance sent the letter under President Donald Trump’s instructions to resume peace negotiations.
Reports about the indirect negotiations in Doha point to progress in talks, aimed at reaching agreements on Iran’s nuclear program, economic sanctions, and the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
