President of Cuba urges socialist enterprise to be more agile

Havana, Nov 2 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, urged the socialist state enterprise to be more agile, efficient and competitive, without giving up its nature, taking advantage of the economic and social transformations that the country is now driving.

By participating in a seminar with more than half a hundred managers on the 176 approved transformations, the president shared criteria regarding the role that the country’s management grants to the state-owned enterprise, the role of its managers, active trust, social responsibility, worker participation and negative trends that will need to be avoided or addressed.

He pointed out that the management teams of state-owned enterprises require trained members and a proper functioning of these bodies, away from administrative formalism that are a drag on innovation and development, and that lead to bureaucracy.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that among the values that the cadres must assume are the change of mentality, the sense of belonging, social responsibility and the commitment to a greater participation of the workers.

During the meeting, held at the end of September, the head of state reiterated the confidence of the country’s leadership in the ability of the business system to contribute to economic development.

He warned that this trust implies a demand: managers must be at the forefront of the transformation process, not at the rear of resistance.

He asserted that the pre-eminence of the socialist state enterprise cannot be measured only by the number of entities, but by the quality of its management to face current challenges and by its real ability to generate economic efficiency compared with other forms of

He reiterated that the transformative process aims to attract capital, increase efficiency and make better use of state-owned enterprise capabilities, but always preserving social ownership as an indispensable principle.

Díaz-Canel also pointed out four key aspects that should guide the transformations: the energy transition, the circular economy, science and innovation, as well as digital transformation, process automation, and artificial intelligence.
