First hits of “Voces del Sur Global”

Havana, (Prensa Latina) The successful emergence of Voces del Sur Global (Voices of the Global South) website is today endorsed by Google Analytics as its statistics show that in the first three weeks of operation almost 2,000 users from 80 countries from America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East have visited site.

A snapshot of the start-up shows promising figures with Cuba and the United States leading the American continent, followed by Trinidad and Tobago, Chile and Brazil, while the traffic from Europe is relevant with a comprehensive list headed by Sweden, Spain, Italy, France and Ireland.

The platform offers news analysis, articles, columns from media outlets in several continents. The idea to create it came up at the New Operation Truth International Conference Prensa Latina organized in Havana last January. Since its beginning this news agency has been recognized by highlighting the voice of the South.

Readership concentrations by cities, so far, is led by Havana, followed in descending order by Forest City (Malaysia), Lulea (Sweden), Santiago de Chile, Prineville (United States), Dublin (Ireland), Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic).

These quantitative reports shows readers have welcomed the initiative to reproduce in a single website a selection of stories in their original languages, stories which have been published by different international media, reflecting the vision of those silenced by the dominant media corporations of global communication.

With just one click , Internet users can access this new proposal that includes stories in Spanish, English and Portuguese, written by journalists who cover today’s developments from an anti-hegemonic point of view.

“Voces del Sur Global” competes with the 10,500 sites that are created daily on average on the web.

The most visited pages show the interests of cybernauts. The two most read articles so far are “The responsibility of the United States in the economic crisis in Cuba” and “DANGER: Fooling-Around with Fake News”.

Also standing out among the most viewed stories are “How it was possible to locate the Crocus City Hall terrorists” and “Trump’s possible return to the White House sets off alarm bells in the US”.

Consolidating itself as a solid alternative multimedia group with headquarters in Cuba and correspondents in almost 40 countries, Prensa Latina celebrates in June 16th its 65th anniversary as an agency of excellence in the news world in Latin America and the Caribbean. It has never deviated from its historic role of contributing to spread the voices of the Global South.

Prensa Latina assumed the coordinating role of Voices from the Global South project from its experience of having been the leader of the POOL of News Agencies of the Non-Aligned Movement, as member of the Board of Directors of the Belt and Road News Network, its participation in World Agency Congresses, Global Media Forums and agreements with more than 100 international media.
