The opening session paves the way for four days of debates amid a national situation full of challenges, mainly in the economic sector, with eyes on the complex international context, according to the PCC’s website.

Three working commissions will discuss crucial matters such as the Conceptualization of Cuba’s economic and social model of socialist development, and the implementation of the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution.

The meeting coincides with the 60th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Cuban revolutionary process and the defeat of the mercenary invasion of Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), which was armed and funded by the United States.

The 8th PCC Congress is taking place amid a health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on all sectors of life, as well as the tightening of the US six-decades-old blockade.
