Our warmest congratulations on the occasion of the anniversary of your country’s national holiday, this January 1, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations Firmin Edouard Matoko said on behalf of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in a message sent to Cuban Permanent Representative to UNESCO Yahima Esquivel.
The official expressed the desire to strengthen the ties that have always existed between Cuba and the 193-member-State agency specialized in education, science and culture, for mutual benefit.
In that sense, he reiterated UNESCO’s availability to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and multilateralism, especially in the context of the current health and economic crisis caused by Covid-19.
Matoko mentioned Cuba’s outstanding participation in the multilateral agency through its Permanent Delegation at the headquarters in Paris, the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO and the Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Havana.
