On the social network Twitter, that instance of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled the celebration of the First Meeting of Cubans against the Helms-Burton law, signed January 18 and 19, 1997.

Today, just like 25 years ago, our nationals residing abroad raise their voices demanding the US government, added the message.

Ernesto Soberón, director of Consular Affairs and Cubans Resident Abroad, recently thanked the actions carried out by solidarity projects to support the Cuban people and families.

In a meeting with activists who reject the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Havana, the diplomat ratified the will to strengthen ties with nationals residing abroad, through an irreversible and constantly updated process.

During January, donations have arrived in Havana from the solidarity organizations Puentes de Amor, Code Pink and The People’s Forum, and from the Cuban musician and composer living in the United States Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera.

While Cuba was facing the Covid-19 pandemic and the coercive measures of the US government intensified in 2021, successive caravans were held in hundreds of cities around the world in support of the Cuban people and donations of medical supplies and food were sent.

Last year the IV Nation and Emigration Meeting was postponed due to the pandemic, but events such as the V Regional Meeting of Cuban Residents in Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Ecuador, and those of nationals residing in Belgium and China were held.
