Presidents of China and Russia agree to strengthen strategic ties

Beijing, Feb 4 (Prensa Latina) Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin agreed to strengthen strategic ties, communication and coordination between their countries, especially in order to face challenges in the international arena.

According to a joint statement, both leaders held pleasant and friendly talks on the state of bilateral relations and issues related to the security and stability of the planet.

President Xi Jinping highlighted the mutual support of both powers, the growing political trust and the expansion of the trade volume to record levels, and referred to the active participation in the reform and construction of the global governance system, the promotion of true multilateralism and the pursuit of more justice in today’s world.

He expressed willingness to work together with Putin to further consolidate relations, strengthen contacts against external interference and threats to regional security, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in sectors such as energy, agriculture, high technology, health and infrastructure, among others.

For his part, President Putin highlighted the reported growth in trade and assured that the Russia-China strategic coordination is in line with the development interests of each side.

He considered the maintenance of peace and security in the world to be highly relevant, proposed working together with his Chinese counterpart in the protection of territorial integrity and also exploring more fields that give rise to new cooperation projects.
