Moscow, Jun 17 (Prensa Latina) Mercenaries and military specialists from 64 countries are fighting in Ukraine and 1,956 of them died in combat with the Russian Armed Forces, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.

The spokesman of the Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov, stated that until June 17th, 6,956 foreigners had arrived in Ukraine in support of Kiev, of which 1,956 were eliminated and 1,779 escaped the country.

“3,221 mercenaries are alive so far, they have not yet been captured or have not reached the Ukrainian border,” he said.

According to data from the Ministry of Defense of Russia, Poland leads in the number of European mercenaries who died in Ukraine (378), while Canada is ranked highest in the American continent.

In the case of Poland, 1,831 people came to fight in Ukraine, of which 378 lost their lives and 272 went back. Romania is next on the list (504 total, 102 died, 98 departed). The United Kingdom is third (422, 101, 95).

According to Konashenkov, 601 Canadians also arrived in Ukraine, 162 were killed and 169 escaped back; as for the U.S., 530 came in, 214 didn’t come out, another 227 fled.

Konashenkov further reported that the majority of mercenaries from the Middle East, Transcaucasia and Asia, arrived from Georgia (355), followed by members of terrorist formations who moved from areas controlled by the United States in Syria (200).

The Ministry of Defense spokesman highlighted the fact that the flow of mercenaries to Ukraine has decreased and is on the decline due to the military failures of Kiev

“Despite the efforts of the regime and the increase in their remuneration, the leaders of Ukraine cannot stop the departure of mercenaries to the afterlife or back to their countries of residence,” he said.
