Lebanon’s unified position in maritime dispute highlighted

libano-fronteras
Beirut, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Lebanese economists, analysts, politicians and authorities highlighted Lebanon's unified position on the southern border with Israel.

After more than four months of negotiations, Lebanon and Israel are moving towards settling their maritime dispute after receiving the final version of the agreement from US mediator, Amos Hochstein.

The Lebanese economist Ziad Nasreddine made statements to Prensa Latina assuring that the issue of oil and gas is not linked to the border, but rather consolidating and fixating the rights of Lebanon based on the main goal of breaking the United States embargo.

For the energy expert, the US administration prohibited European companies from exploring in Lebanese waters, allowing extraction, export and sale as part of a file that constitutes a main and important factor in saving the country’s economy.

Nasreddine emphasized that after more than a decade and the liberation of some 860 square kilometers from the sea, “Lebanon can move towards the exploration, extraction and selection of gas lines it needs as well as the markets it needs without being linked to the organization of the Mediterranean Forum whose headquarters are in Tel Aviv.”

On this subject, the doctor in International Relations and European Studies Hosam Matar stressed that for 11 years, Lebanon has demanded the so-called line 23 to define its exclusive economic zone and “after the recent escalation of the Resistance, it is headed towards obtaining its legitimate rights.”

The Lebanese analyst tweeted assuring that in terms of the maritime border, each party will do sign its own document separately and send it to the United Nations. He also stressed that there will be no meeting for the delegations and rejected those who speak of normalization with the enemy.
