Cuban poet Nancy Morejón expresses gratitude for solidarity received

Paris, Jun 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuban poet Nancy Morejon thanked the expressions of solidarity in the island and other countries after the decision of the Paris Poetry Market to withdraw her honorary presidency due to external pressures.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, the 2001 National Literature Prize essayist acknowledged the people and organizations that in the last hours reacted to the news.

I regret that hatred ended up prevailing over art, the literary critic and translator, who has been awarded in several countries, including with the insignia of Officer of the Order of Merit of the French Republic said.

The day before, it was announced the decision of the Poetry Market (to be held from June 7 to 11) to withdraw Morejon’s honorary presidency, due to pressures from anti-Cuban sectors.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and Cuban authorities denounced the hatred against the Cuban culture and its Revolution, and supported the poetess.

The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Casa de las Americas and the Organizing Committee of the 29th Havana International Poetry Festival also condemned the campaign.

The World Poetry Movement and Cuba solidarity associations in Europe and other continents also support Morejon and repudiate the politicization of culture and art as a weapon to attack the Caribbean country.
