Arab world needs to boost food sector

Cairo, Jul 22 (Prensa Latina) The Arab countries import 40 billion dollars worth of food every year, a volume that will increase to 90 billion dollars by 2050, in view of which it is necessary to boost the sector, a specialized sources said on Friday.

Ibrahim Al-Dakhiri, director general of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, noted the need to accelerate the pace of integration and cooperation to produce food.

In statements to Egypt’s official news agency MENA, he considered it fundamental to preserve food security in the region, which is marked by large areas of deserts.

We have the mission to assist in the creation and development of relations between the Arab countries, to organize cooperation between them in the agricultural sector, and to develop the natural and human resources available in this area, he stressed.

In the light of these challenges, he called for improving scientific methods, increasing the efficiency of agricultural production and working on integration.
