Tribute to Cuban poet in contest in El Cobre

Luisa-Perez-de-Zambrana
Santiago de Cuba, Aug 29 (Prensa Latina) The 36th Luisa Perez de Zambrana Poetry Contest is a tribute to her, who was born in 1837 in the town of El Cobre and who became a distinguished personality in Cuban literature.

The contest will open until September 30 and has its origin in the House of Culture that bears her name in that emblematic settlement, where the mining, religious and anti-slavery cultural heritages are combined, with remarkable magnetism to world geography.

In a farm in Melgarejo, a few kilometers from the mines and the urban center, the future poet, who transcended by the elegiac accent of her works and her love for Cuba, was born.

She lived her last years in the Havana municipality of Regla until May 25, 1922, after suffering the painful loss of her five children and her husband from 1886 to 1898, which had significant reflections in her poetry and in her life.

Considered one of the most relevant poets in Cuba and Latin America, Perez de Zambrana’s legacy was updated in her homeland on the centenary of her death in 2022.

The results of the contest will be announced during the Day of Cuban Culture in October, and radio stations, the Sierra Maestra newspaper and other media will take part in its dissemination and enhancement, along with the spaces of social networks on the Internet.
