United Nations, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Even though transatlantic slave trade ended over 200 years ago, the idea of white supremacy on which it was based on nowadays is still alive, the UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres warned.
United Nations, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) On the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade we pay tribute to the millions of Africans who were torn from their homelands, UN Secretary-General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres said. Mr. Guterres called for standing up in solidarity against racism everywhere, since many people of African descent continue to confront racial discrimination, marginalization and exclusion.
United Nations, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Capping years of deliberations, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution establishing the United Nations Permanent Forum of People of African Descent, a 10-member advisory body that will work closely with the Geneva-based Human Rights Council.
Washington, Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) President Joe Biden signed a bill Thursday making Juneteenth a national holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S., calling it a day to remember the moral stain, the terrible toll that slavery took on the country.
