Eight-year-old Martín Pinto and his twin sister were involved in an accident in Maule, in south-central Chile, over the weekend.

Social media has been flooded with messages of gratitude to the specialist, who graduated in Cuba and postponed her maternity leave to travel to Talca with her husband and two children to perform the four-hour surgery.

The surgery was successful, and inflammation was reduced, but the child is in a delicate health condition.
