Greek protesters block train loaded with US tanks

Athens, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) Greek activists stopped a train transporting US tanks and forced it to return, a local newspaper reported.

According to the source, the train was outbound from the port of Alexandroupolis towards Bulgaria, but members of the Communist Party of Greece and its youth wing stood on the tracks carrying flags and posters, blocking the movement of US war matériel.

The protesters refused to move as the train began to move, and as a result, the driver was forced to stop and reverse.

“When people do not bow down, even the trains go back,” the activists evaluated the result of their actions, and left inscriptions in red paint on the matériel on the train. “We call on the people to create obstacles to the transformation of Alexandroupolis into a springboard for the murderous war machine of the United States, NATO and the EU,” said the Greek Communist Party.

The party advocates for Greece to stop participating in NATO military missions. Stavros Bazas, a member of the party’s regional committee, stated that the movement condemns NATO’s use of the port, the railway network, and military camps in the region to transport dangerous matériel to the border with Bulgaria. He also accused the Government of sending over to the Ukrainian regime weapons systems useful for the defense of Greece.

According to Bazas, this is not done in the interest of the people, but of a small group of people; he considered that these actions do not provide any security to the region, on the contrary, they turn Greece into an oppressor of other peoples and a victim of rival camps.
