Chilean women feel unsafe walking at night – IPSOS

Santiago de Chile, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) 90% of Chilean women said they feel unsafe while walking down the streets at night due to rising criminal acts, according to IPSOS report.

This situation caused 58 out of every 100 women to stop traveling, going out or driving alone at night.

The survey included 600 women and 57% stated they had been victims of physical or psychological violence.

“Public insecurity is currently generating major consequences for women, limiting them, transforming their lives and diminishing their spaces for interaction with other people,” said IPSOS’ public studies manager, Alejandra Ojeda.

According to Ojeda, not being able to walk alone at night, having to move with others or feeling insecure in some places harm their freedom of action and can bring about harmful consequences on their mental health in the long term.

“Insecurity is a problem for everyone, but it has a gender perspective in its consequences,” Ojeda added.
