In an official note, the Foreign Ministry ‘also deplores the deaths of Palestinian civilians and health workers and the damage caused by the military action of recent weeks, which resulted in the destruction of the Al-Shifa hospital, where medical assistance to the population of Gaza is essential’.

Expressing its solidarity with the people of Palestine and of the other countries of the victims’ nationality (Australia, United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Poland), especially to their families, Brazil regrets that more than 200 humanitarian actors have died in Gaza since October 2023.

It notes that this figure is the highest in the history of the United Nations and ‘represents, in less than six months of conflict, almost three times more casualties among humanitarian workers than have ever been recorded in a single conflict, over a period of one year’.

The Brazilian Executive reiterates the firm rejection of any military action against civilian targets, especially those linked to the provision of humanitarian aid and medical assistance.

It also insists on the importance of complying with the demand for an immediate ceasefire contained in UN Security Council Resolution 2728, approved on March 25.

It recalls the binding nature of the precautionary measures issued by the International Court of Justice on January 26 and extended on March 28 within the framework of the process initiated against Israel on the basis of the Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

More than 32,000 dead and 70,000 wounded is the preliminary balance of the war operation of the Zionist forces by land, air and sea carried out against Gaza since October 7, when the military wing of the Hamas resistance movement launched an operation against the Israeli occupation of over 70 years.
