Cuban participates in ECLAC forum in Colombia

Bogotá, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuba will participate in a meeting of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) during which it will share its experience in building a management model based on science.

This was stated to Prensa Latina by the Vice Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba Adianez Taboada before she participated in the forum.

According to the Vice Minister, the 4th Meeting of the Conference on Science, Innovation and Information and Communications Technologies of ECLAC will become an ideal space to socialize those positive experiences achieved by Cuba and to propose other initiatives that require regional cooperation.

One of the projects deals with the need to move towards a more resilient sugar cane agro-industry with low carbon emissions.

This proposal was already discussed at the last United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP28) and at the 6th UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), Taboada said.

She also expressed that”The idea is that all countries that want to be included in this alliance have the opportunity to build a new sugar cane industry, and another of the initiatives has to do with basic sciences. Specifically, the proposal concerns the creation of a regional center for the development of basic sciences that are, ultimately, the basis on which other sciences are based”

The Cuban authority added that the Island will also share its experience on how its scientific potential managed to obtain five COVID-19 vaccine candidates and about the care protocols designed in Cuba.

The vice minister highlighted that the progress achieved by Cuba is a result of a model based on science, innovation, and knowing how to take advantage of the creativity and opportunities that knowledge provides.
