Health Ministry reinforces prevention and control of diseases in DR

Santo Domingo, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Ministry of Public Health today reinforced its strategy for the prevention and control of malaria and dengue fever, especially in areas where cases have been identified, in order to avoid their spread.

The day before, this Ministry notified 12 patients diagnosed with malaria in the last seven days, all of them residents of the San Juan province, in the region of El Valle, specifically in the sectors of Pueblo Nuevo and Mijo.

It specified that so far this year, 452 positive cases have been reported and no deaths have been reported for this disease transmitted by an infected mosquito and with symptoms that may include fever, vomiting and/or headache.

The entity assured that, through the Provincial Directorates and Health Areas, it maintains an active intervention in the communities, in coordination with other public and civil society institutions.

In addition to dengue patients, it also reported three possible cases of leptospirosis, for a total of 279 in the first six months of this year.

These are men between 30 and 49 years of age, who are awaiting laboratory confirmation, he said.
