The association believes that the legislation “enables the foreign ownership of media outlets and eliminates public participation and citizen control in the frequency allocation process” in radio and television.
The law, which was approved by the then-majority ruling party legislators, sparked condemnation from civil society sectors, international experts, and United Nations special rapporteurs on freedom of expression.
Overall, CAINFO found that in the last period, there was a decrease in cases of attacks on journalists’ work compared to previous times.
