China and Russia to strengthen strategic alliance during Xi’s visit

Beijing, May 7 (Prensa Latina) Chinese President Xi Jinping began a visit to Russia focused on the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over fascism in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

The president’s agenda will extend until May 10th and includes talks with his host counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on bilateral development and on international and regional key issues

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the meeting is expected to boost mutual trust, enrich strategic cooperation, and strengthen coordination in multiple sectors, benefiting both peoples..

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, in which China and Russia played key roles as main battlefronts in Asia and Europe. “Both countries made great sacrifices and contributed decisively to the global victory against fascism,” the statement reads.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Xi Jinping and Putin agreed to remember this history, promote a correct historical vision, and defend the post-war achievements and the established international order. Furthermore, “this year also marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and as founding and permanent members of the Security Council, China and Russia have a special responsibility to defend the multilateral system centered on the UN,” it added.

The Ministry announced that both nations will strengthen their collaboration on platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS Group, with the intention of supporting the Global South and working against unilateralism and hegemonic pressure. They also emphasized that their common goal is to promote a multipolar, just, and equitable world, as well as inclusive and sustainable economic globalization.

More than 10 foreign leaders confirmed their participation in the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, and military personnel from friendly countries, including China, will participate in the parade formations across Red Square.
