The diplomatic mission affirmed that Campos’ declarations constitute a threat and an attack on Dominican-Chinese relations, while at the same time violating the basic norms of diplomatic conduct.
They also constitute a flagrant interference in the diplomatic sovereignty of the Dominican Republic, the embassy told Diario Libre.
Last May 1 Campos, nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as ambassador to Santo Domingo, warned that “I will work tirelessly to counter the influence of the Chinese Communist Party in the Dominican Republic and throughout our hemisphere.”
This was stated before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, an occasion in which she also advanced that among her priorities are the need to improve border security, combat illegal immigration and continue the joint fight against drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
