During the trial, reports were presented detailing the physical and psychological consequences suffered by the victims as a result of the abuse and torture.
The ruling recalls that after the 1973 coup d’état, the Chilean armed forces unleashed brutal repression against militants and supporters of parties that were part of the deposed government, as well as against other organizations such as the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR).
In 1975, the army focused on dismantling the cell operating in Copiapó, arresting MIR sympathizers, supporters, and members in the city and other towns in the north of the country.
During that period, Carlos Enrique Mundaca, Félix Pérez Cortés, Reinaldo Troncoso, Álex Alvayay, Luis Roberto Bugueño, Sergio Campillay, Juan Galvarino Alfaro, Waldo Alfaro, Sergio Quiroga, and Grineldo Godoy were kidnapped.
After being kidnapped and subjected to torture-based interrogations, the victims were taken to detention centers in the region or to concentration camps in Santiago and other locations.
