India and Pakistan exchange artillery fire

New Delhi, May 7 (Prensa Latina) India and Pakistan exchanged artillery fire on the border following the launch of a "counter-terrorism operation" by India using missiles against several Pakistani areas.

The Indian army issued a statement accodring to which it inflicted casualties on its enemy with an “effective” response.

The exchange of artillery fire took place shortly after a missile strike by India against terrorist targets in Pakistani territory and the Jammu and Kashmir region, under Islamabad’s jurisdiction.

In an initial report, the Indian Ministry of Defense stated that as part of Operation Sindoor, nine sites were hit with “focused, measured actions that were not intended to escalate.” “No Pakistani military installations have been attacked. India has shown considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution,” the statement added.

According to the source, the strike was carried out in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam and to eliminate the leaders of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, whom India believes were involved in the planning and execution of the incident, which left 26 people dead.

Due to the escalation, Indian airlines have canceled all flights to and from certain areas in the north of the country until further updates from authorities.

India will conduct a civil defense readiness exercise on Wednesday, which includes the use of air raid warning sirens, blackouts, camouflaging vital installations, training the public to protect themselves in the event of an attack, and updating and rehearsing evacuation plans.

Indian authorities believe Pakistan is indirectly responsible for the attack due to cross-border links with the attackers, something Islamabad strongly denies.
