According to the SNM, following the signing of a memorandum with the United States, 1,969 irregular migrants have been returned since last August in some 48 charter flights.
This last group, composed of 13 women and 68 men, was transferred under strict security protocols from Panama Pacifico airport to their destination.
Among the outstanding cases are two citizens of India, both of whom were expelled after having been deported in September 2024, according to the SNM.
The embassy of the northern country indicated in an official note that it is providing close to 14 million dollars to the government of Panama to deport or expel citizens who do not have the legal basis to remain in Panama.
The agreement, the diplomatic source adds, has allowed financing 48 charter flights and 20 air tickets on commercial flights to several countries, including Colombia, Ecuador and India.
Official figures indicate that the passage of migrants through the Darien jungle to the United States has been reduced by 99% so far this year compared to the same period in 2024.
