The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) emphasized on its X profile that famine “cannot be addressed by using humanitarian aid as a weapon.”
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees quoted the words of its General Commissioner, Philippe Lazzarini, who criticized the model proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for the distribution of aid in that coastal enclave, where more than two million people live.
It pointed out that the Israeli plan is far from being sufficient to address hunger in the territory.
It also stressed that humanitarian agencies are committed to delivering aid to all those in need without exception.
UNRWA Spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna warned that more than 66,000 children there are suffering from severe malnutrition due to the total blockade imposed by Israel since March 2.
