ASEAN agrees to strengthen digital collaboration

Kuala Lumpur, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Member states of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) agreed Friday on the need for a safe, secure, inclusive, and resilient digital environment to safeguard the citizens' rights and welfare.

The Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Safe and Responsible Use of Social Media Platforms for ASEAN received the full support of the regional bloc, with a collective pledge to foster a safe and secure digital space.

The declaration represents a united stance by ASEAN member nations to curb the misuse of social media, enhance digital security, and strengthen communal harmony in the region.

During the meeting, Malaysia updated the progress of the Guidelines for Safe and Responsible Use of Social Media Platforms for ASEAN, focused on improving cyber protection and well-being.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching stated that the guidelines are expected to be finalized in the next three months.
