Building collapse leaves nine dead in the Moroccan city of Fez

Rabat, May 9 (Prensa Latina) The collapse of a residential building in Morocco leaves nine dead and seven injured in the Moroccan city of Fez, in the center of the country.

The tragedy occurred in the neighborhood of Al Hassani, where rescue teams are looking for new possible victims.

According to the official MAP news agency, the building was classified as at risk of collapse and evacuation had been ordered.

The injured were taken to the emergency department of the Al Ghassani hospital in Fez, where they are receiving medical attention.

The authorities closed the affected area and started the preventive evacuation of the neighbors of the adjacent buildings. Many Moroccan buildings are under constant observation due to the aftermath of earthquakes affecting that country. In September 2023 an earthquake in the High Atlas Mountains, 71 kilometers southwest of Marrakech, caused more than three thousand deaths and left thousands of people injured in Al-Haouzy and Taroudant provinces, considered the strongest tremor to hit Morocco in 120 years.
