France and Poland to sign friendship treaty

Paris, May 9 (Prensa Latina) French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will sign a bilateral friendship and cooperation treaty in the eastern French city of Nancy on Friday, to update an agreement dating back to 1991.

According to the host Presidency, the pact aims to strengthen ties in security, defense, infrastructure, and energy, in a context marked by the war in Ukraine, a country that both governments support. Added to this is the tariff crusade, attacking the European Union, since President Donald Trump took over office in the White house.

The Elysee considered an “anomaly” that Paris would boost relations with Germany, Italy, and Spain, through strategic initiatives signed in this capital in 1963, in Quirinal in 2021, and in Barcelona in 2023, respectively, and not do so with Poland, which it highlighted as a great European partner.

Tusk, in turn, announced that the agreement with France “will change many things”, especially in the security and defense.
