France to use income from Russian assets for military aid to Ukraine

Brussels, May 9 (Prensa Latina) The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, announced here that his country will use income derived from the freezing of Russian assets for military support to Ukraine, in particular the maintenance of the Caesar cannons.

In the context of his participation in a meeting of European Union (EU) foreign ministers, he specified that this maintenance work will be carried out by the KNDS company.

France has delivered some 60 Caesar guns, 155-millimeter self-propelled equipment with a range of 40 kilometers, as part of its support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.

Parties with seats in the National Assembly called for confiscation of the frozen Russian assets, a claim the government rejected on the grounds that such a seizure would violate international law.

However, Paris has shown itself favorable, with the support of the EU, to use the interest derived from the retention of these funds, a measure denounced by Russia.

On the subject of the conflict that turned three years old in February, Barrot advocated in Brussels to increase pressure on Moscow with new sanctions so that it accepts an end to hostilities.

“We want peace, and the only obstacle is called Vladimir Putin,” said the Foreign Minister, in a context in which Russia assures to be willing to stop the war, but if conditions are met for a lasting peace.
