According to a Presidential press release, these working visits aim to continue diversifying economic and commercial ties.
The tour comes after the United States announced 10-percent tariffs on Chilean products such as salmon and fruit, which could also be imposed on copper.
In Tokyo, the Chilean head of State will meet with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and then travel to Osaka to participate in the World Expo 2025, where he will attend the Chile Day, an opportunity to showcase the advantages of clean energy, agribusiness, and high-end tourism.
While in China, Boric will attend the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum.
The Chilean president will coincide with his counterparts from China, Xi Jinping; Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva; and Colombia, Gustavo Petro, in his current role as CELAC pro tempore president.
Boric will also hold a bilateral meeting with Xi Jinping and lead the Chile-China 2025 Business Meeting, to strengthen the foundations of a partnership fundamental for the country’s growth and international projection, the statement said.
Since taking office in 2022, this will be Boric’s second trip to China, Chile’s main trading partner.
Boric will be accompanied by a delegation consisting of ministers of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Transport and Telecommunications, Culture, Arts and Heritage, entrepreneurs, and senators.
