The study entitled “Long-term care for the elderly: demographic and social perspectives in the Hispanic Caribbean, Central America and Mexico,” quoted by La Estrella de Panamá newspaper, reveals that the sub-region is experiencing a demographic transition in Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
In delving into the data of Panama, the ECLAC research is based on the Population and Housing Census of 2023, which allowed it to know the diversity and complexity of the demographic structure of the country, stating that the medium age of the Panamanian population increased by eight years between 1990 (22 years) and 2023 (30 years).
