Speaking at the conference on juvenile justice in this capital, the official stated that, as the 50th anniversary of Angola’s national independence is celebrated, it is important to highlight how Angola has taken clear steps, both legislatively and politically, that demonstrate its commitment to children’s rights.
“Angola was one of the first countries in the world to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990, a document that represents the unequivocal and prominent recognition and guarantee of children’s rights within the framework of human rights in general,” she stated. For his part, Carlos Cavuquila, a member of the Angolan Supreme Council of the Judiciary, referred to the need to expand integrated child support centers throughout the country, given that they are currently only present in the provinces of Luanda, Moxico, Malanje, and Huíla.
The official expressed his hope that the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Family Affairs, or another institution should be defined as soon as possible.
