Brazilian former police officer admits plan to kill Lula da Silva

Brasilia, May 16 (Prensa Latina) A Federal Police (PF) officer under investigation for coup plotting revealed details of a plot to arrest and even kill authorities, such as Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after the 2022 elections.

Audio recordings released by the PF reveal details of the plot, which also targeted Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.

In the recordings sent to the Supreme Court and revealed by the G1 website, former police officer Wladimir Soares, who was arrested in November 2023, expressed his intention to act violently: “We were going to go with great determination, we were going to push the people away, kill half of them. We wouldn’t care,” he states, revealing the seriousness of the plan, which involved the arrest and physical elimination of opponents.

The former officer spoke of cutting off De Moraes’s head in an audio recording found on his cell phone as part of the police investigation that uncovered his involvement in an assassination plot and coup against democracy. He also stated: “Alexandre de Moraes really should have had his head cut off when he prevented the president from appointing Ramagen as director of the Federal Police”. This expression highlights the radical nature of his motivation.

The PF’s so-called Operation Countercoup, which uncovered this plot, arrested four soldiers and Soares himself.

The police report indicates that those involved were planning a coordinated attack, using soldiers stationed outside De Moraes’s residence in Brasília, waiting for the opportunity to execute the neutralization plan.
