The ambassador recalled Commander Daniel Ortega’s expression that “no one here gives up” when facing various aggressions, and affirmed that both leaders reaffirm their solidarity with the Palestinian people because “they are on the right side of history.”
Regarding Cuba, Cheves emphasized that co-presidents Ortega and Murillo condemn the blockade maintained against Cuba by the US government for more than 60 years and the inclusion of Cuba on a unilaterally drawn up list of countries that supposedly do not collaborate in the fight against terrorism.
Regarding the reality of Nicaragua, Cheves recalled the expression “they could not and will not be able to,” highlighting the country’s progress in health. He emphasized that despite the various aggressions Nicaragua has endured, the country has the best highway system in the region, including the one that connects the Pacific to the Caribbean coast.
The official reported that the economy is expected to grow between 4.5 and 4.7 percent this year. “All of these are achievements that honor Sandino and guarantee the sovereignty he defended in a battle in which he defeated US troops,” he said.
The ambassador concluded sayint that all these results allow the Nicaraguan government to have a popular approval rating of between 80 and 90 percent. “Today, the Sandinista Front embraces Sandino’s historic program, whose figure was honored by Commander Carlos Fonseca Amador at the beginning of our revolutionary struggle.”
