“Good results of the first Russia-Ukraine talks in three years: further exchange of prisoners of war, ceasefire options that can work, understanding of positions and continued talks,” Dmitriev posted on his X social account on Saturday.
Dmitriev recalled that the talks in question were held behind closed doors, lasted about two hours and resulted in agreeing on a massive exchange of prisoners under the “thousand for thousand” formula.
In his turn, the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, reported that Moscow and Kiev also agreed to present their vision of a future cease-fire.
The Russian delegation was satisfied with the outcome of the consultations and is ready to continue contacts, Medinsky said.
The Russian negotiator also added that Ukraine requested a meeting between the heads of state, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelenski, which Russia took note of.
Meanwhile, Türkiye Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that the two countries reached an agreement in principle to hold a new round of negotiations.
The Russian team included, among others, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin and the head of the General Directorate of the Russian General Staff, Igor Kostiukov.
The Ukrainian delegation, headed by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, also included First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Kislitsa, First Deputy Head of the Security Service Alexander Poklad and First Deputy Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Alexander Lugovsky, among others.
