Renowned Cuban filmmaker Livio Delgado passes away

Havana, May 29 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) issued a statement mourning the death of Livio Delgado Camacho, one of the country's most distinguished cinematographers.

Camacho received the National Film Award in 2019 and the Lucía de Honor Award from the 2024 Gibara International Festival of Low-Fat Cinema. His work is featured in representative films of the national film industry.

In 1961, Camacho began working at the ICAIC as a camera assistant, and in 1973, he debuted as a director of photography, working with prominent Cuban filmmakers.

Camacho was the photographer for films like El corazón sobre la tierra (1985) by Constante “Rapi” Diego; Amada (1983), and Cecila (1981) by Humberto Solás; Retrato de Teresa (1979) by Pastor Vega; Una novia para David (1985) by Orlando Rojas; Un hombre de éxito (1989) by Pastor Vega; La inútil muerte de mi socio Manolo (1989) by Julio García Espinosa; and El siglo de las luces (1992) by Humberto Solás.

His extensive filmography and the images he left us ensure Camacho’s place forever in the history of Cuban cinema, as noted by the ICAIC, who also conveyed its condolences to his family and friends.
