Representatives from more than 60 countries participated this Friday in Hong Kong in the signing ceremony of the convention for establishing the International Mediation Court, aimed at promoting the principles of the United Nations Charter and strengthening multilateral mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
Nearly 20 international organizations, including the United Nations, attended the event, which was presided over by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
In 2022, China and nearly 20 like-minded countries launched the initiative to establish the International Mediation Court.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry informed that after joint efforts, the negotiations of the founding treaty were concluded, and the nations agreed to place the institution’s headquarters in Hong Kong.
