The meeting of Latin American-Caribbean and European parliaments started preliminary works on Sunday, in preparation for the 4th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU), to be held in Colombia in November.
The assembly is held at the Legislative Palace. It assesses trade and economic relations between the EU and Latin America, with a focus on the impact of protectionism, an apparent allusion to the tariff war by US President Donald Trump.
The agenda includes cuts in international cooperation (largely due to the European arms race), the role of renewable energy, migration, the fight against organized crime, and the defense of international legality.
Organizers informed that the debates will focus on strengthening trade and economic relations between the EU and CELAC member countries in the face of protectionist tensions.
Participants will also analyze the impact of cuts in international cooperation and the effects of extractivism, the bi-regional pact on care, the role of indigenous women in protecting life and the environment, and clean and renewable energy sources, among other issues.
