A statement published by the Italian Foreign Ministry on its official website indicates that, during this meeting held at that diplomatic institution’s headquarters, Tajani and Meinl-Reisinger discussed trade relations between EU countries and the United States, in the face of pressure and tariff impacts imposed by President Donald Trump.
The document underscored that in his dialogue with Meinl-Reisinger, the Italian foreign minister “emphasized a long-term approach, focused on revitalizing European competitiveness and industry.”
Tajani emphasized the need to develop a strategy for the leading strategic industrial sectors at the European level, such as the car, steel, aluminum, and chemical industries.
A central point of the agenda was the two ministers’ shared vision for the future enlargement of the EU with the inclusion of Balkan countries, an issue that Italy considers a priority.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the two ministers agreed on the need to support peace talks and future investment participation in that nation after the end of the armed conflict, a topic that will be discussed at the Recovery Conference scheduled for July 10-11 in Rome.
About the situation in the Middle East, both ministers “shared the hope that the end of the crisis between Iran and Israel could lead to renewed stability,” the document states.
They also assessed actions to speed up the end of Tel Aviv’s aggression against Gaza, which has already killed more than 56,000 Palestinians.
