Turkiye condemns Israeli military intervention in southern Syria

Ankara, July 16 (Prensa Latina) The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli airstrikes and military intervention in the recent events in southern Syria.

According to Anadolu Agency, this position was expressed in a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, which emphasized on the need of immediately stopping Israeli attacks in the south of the Arab nation.

“We condemn Israel’s intervention in the events in southern Syria through the use of military force, and we emphasize that these attacks must cease immediately,” the statement reads.

It considered that ensuring stability and security in Syria will benefit all neighboring countries and the region, especially the Syrian people.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry had expressed its strong condemnation of the recent Israeli attacks that left soldiers and civilians dead and wounded.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry described these incursions, carried out in a coordinated manner using drones and fighter jets, as criminal and a treacherous aggression.

It also held Israel responsible for this aggression and its consequences and called on the UN, the Security Council, and the international community to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and clearly and effectively condemn this unjust aggression.

Israel escalated its airstrikes against government forces in the southern provinces of Sweida and Deraa the day before. According to the official news agency SANA, several soldiers were killed and property damage was caused.

The Israeli army had threatened to bomb Syrian transitional government forces if they advance toward the city of Sweida, the capital of the province of the same name, which is experiencing fighting between Druze armed groups and tribal forces.
