The president said he was shocked by the news of the accident, which occurred less than a week after another fatal incident in Serra da Leba (Namibe province), where 22 people lost their lives.
“On behalf of the Executive and on my own behalf, I express my sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic accident that occurred early this morning in the province of Bie, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the head of state said in his message published by the Presidency.
He added that government authorities will continue to provide all possible support to the injured, ensuring that they can return to their families and resume their normal lives as soon as possible.
Thirteen people died and 15 others were injured in a traffic accident that occurred on the Chinguar (Bie)/Menongue (Cubango) section of National Highway (EN) 140, early Sunday morning.
According to Angola Press Agency, the incident occurred when a truck carrying 34 people overturned while crossing the bridge over the Cutato River in the village of Cassoco, causing the death of children and adults.
