Costa and Von der Leyen will arrive in Beijing on July 24 to attend the 25th China-European Union (EU) bilateral summit, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
During the high-level meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with European leaders, while Prime Minister Li Qiang will co-chair the event’s official sessions with Costa and Von der Leyen.
The European Council informed that the central issues will include strengthening bilateral relations, dialogue on global geopolitical challenges, such as the crisis in Ukraine, and promoting more balanced trade cooperation.
Other topics, such as climate change, biodiversity, and ecological transition, will also be addressed.
Antonio Costa noted that the summit represents an opportunity to maintain high-level talks with China and stressed the importance of moving forward in thru frank and constructive discussions that boost fair, balanced, and mutually beneficial relationships.
Before the agenda in China, Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa will attend a G7 summit in Japan.
